Birds In The Wall

If you follow me on facebook you will recall a bird issue a couple of weeks ago. Here are the pictures from that crazy morning. If you don't use facebook the story is really quite comical. We had been hearing some baby birds chirp off and on for a week or so. We thought it was just adorable. Spring was really in the air and the thought of baby birds really excited the girls. Then they got bigger and they sounded like pterodactyl in the ceiling. They squawked what seemed like all day and all night. Then the utility room started smelling a little funny. We had enough of those cute little birds. They nested in a vent that led to the exhaust fan in the utility room. They managed to knock the pipe or duct or whatever was there and were roaming freely in the rafters over the utility room and under Emma's room. Hence the stinky smells coming from the utility room. Anyway we removed the vent cover and found the nest. One of the birds flew away immediately and the other hopped further into the house and could not be reached. So Will removed the exhaust fan in the utility room and we still could not get it. We went to bed that night hoping that the bird would fly away. It didn't. We found it on the floor of the utility room. This was a school morning and things are always hectic as I try to get the kids ready and lunches packed and get myself together for teaching. Anyway, Will let the girls pet the bird and Page held it while Will figured out where to put it so that the cat wouldn't kill it. (It pooped all over Page's shirt by the way!) They also got to hold the egg that didn't make it. You can see what happened when Emma got her turn. It was a hectic morning to say the least. But Page was so very excited that she got to hold the egg and the baby bird. She still talks about it.
